Product Details
- The Mitchell OB100 open-back banjo is built for players who prefer the warmer, more intimate side of traditional banjo tone. The OB100 reflects the relaxed, roots-oriented character associated with old-time banjo playing and acoustic ensemble music. Without a resonator back, this 5-string banjo produces a rounder, mellower voice that blends naturally with vocals, guitars and smaller acoustic groups. The OB100's sapele ply rim, okoume neck, Remo head and 24-bracket tension system provide a balanced, dependable response for clawhammer, two-finger picking, folk, Americana and relaxed jam sessions. Open-Back Design With Warm Acoustic Character The open-back construction gives the OB100 a softer, woodier response than a resonator banjo. That controlled volume and rounded attack make it especially well suited for players who want the banjo to support a song rather than dominate the arrangement. Clawhammer patterns, two-finger picking, simple melodic lines and rhythmic accompaniment all benefit from the instrument’s natural blend and relaxed tonal character. Lightweight Construction With Reliable Response A sapele ply rim keeps the OB100 lightweight and comfortable, making it easier to play through longer practice sessions, lessons and informal jams. The Remo head and 24-bracket tension system help maintain consistent head tension and stable response, while the purpleheart and maple bridge transfers string energy with clarity and balance. A bound purpleheart fingerboard adds a traditional visual touch, and lightweight open-gear tuners make tuning adjustments straightforward. Traditional Folk Style for Working Musicians The OB100 open-back banjo is a practical choice for emerging folk players, gigging musicians and singer-songwriters seeking a relaxed, expressive banjo voice. Its satin finish, chrome hardware, armrest and approachable feel make it useful at home, in small studios, around jam circles or as part of an acoustic ensemble. For players drawn to the softer response and roots-oriented character of an open-back design, the OB100 reflects the traditional feel and accessible musicality found throughout Mitchell's assortment of folk instruments.
