Received mine today. what's the best way to clean or coat it so my hands aren't always black after using it?
Answer: I have not encountered the problem of turning my hands black after using. I would probably only wipe this clean with water. Cast iron used for cooking is usually 'seasoned' with grease. You could coat it with cooking oil but then your hands will get greasy. I wouldn't recommend coating it with anything. This could affect the way it sounds. -

Can this be heard 1/4 mile away? We have some problem sheep who are sneaking out to pasture w/o permission, I need a way to call them to dinner.
Answer: I don't know if it can be heard that far away by sheep, but I do know it is pretty loud and my grandkids can hear it when they are out in the barn about 700 yards away! -
