Nutritionist's Take
The Fleet Adult Enema is primarily intended for use in relieving constipation and preparing for medical procedures. Nutritionists generally agree that while enemas can provide temporary relief, they should not be used as a long-term solution for constipation due to the risk of dependence and potential electrolyte imbalance. The active ingredient is sodium phosphate, which can affect those with certain dietary restrictions such as low sodium diets. Furthermore, overuse can lead to dehydration and disrupt normal bowel function. It's important for individuals considering this product to consult a healthcare professional, particularly those with pre-existing health conditions or those on specific diets. In general, dietary adjustments involving fiber intake and hydration are favored for promoting regular bowel movements over using enemas as a routine practice.
